Teamwork

3.1 Teamwork

Teamwork is important because everyone has to work together to make the work good, and particularly in the film industry. Teamwork is also important in a way to know each others strengths and weaknesses, to know how to support each other or bring the best out of them in a work environment.

When there isn’t good team work things can easily go wrong and escalate into a bigger problem, for example if one of the crew members don’t show up on a shooting day and doesn’t let the others know or do tell them but on last minute on a shooting day which results in losing lots of money. Teamwork is important because everyone has to be there so everything can work. As an example of a crew member missing would be a soundman, if they’re not there to record sound how can the film be proceeded? or in a case of finding a replacement to the soundman in a short notice to continue filming in a shoot day. This takes up a lot of time in which result losing too much money.

3.2 Qualities needed to work well with others

  • Good timekeeping – I made sure that I always caught an early bus in order to be at all sessions early and not to be stressed about being late.
  • Being reliable – I was reliable in my role, I was really well prepared and made sure everything was prepared. I made clear lists of what was needed. I labelled all the costumes and made sure everyone had everything they needed for every scene – asking if they were OK and comfortable with their costumes.
  • Teamwork – the production design team helped each other by making sure that we were on schedule with our work and asking each other if we needed help to make sure that everyone finished the set and props on time.
  • Sharing ideas – we worked really well in pre-production, we all contributed ideas to the colour and look of the film to ensure that we all had the same vision and we fed this back to the other teams in order to make sure everyone was happy with the plans for the look of the film.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I worked as part of the production design department. On the first day of shoot I needed to organise costume and make up for the party scene. People helped me out because we didn’t have a lot of time and I was able to communicate what we needed to do so that everyone was ready in costume and make up on time.

the design team worked together to make sure all set and props were ready and we helped each other out when needed, for example I helped with making the Incubus helmet when Jack was running out of time during rehearsals when the props needed to be ready for shoot the next day.

I rehearsed with Andrea and Peggy was directing us to make sure we were completely prepared for the scene and to support Andrea with learning his lines and developing his character and delivery.

I could improve my ability to work with others by offering myself more to the rest of the art department to make sure they know i am available if they needed help. I could take more initiative in terms of coming up with what needs to happen myself without waiting for other people to tell me, in order to be used to a more professional environment.
