Working Practices

4.1 Health and safety practice

Health and safety is important on film productions because you need to make sure everyone is safe and well in the working environment.  Key safety issues in film are equipment and cables. In our film the first aider (Max) made sure everyone knew the fire exits and the mentors knew if anyone had medical conditions and emergency numbers. We made sure that we carried out dynamic risk assessment – checking for hazards and reporting to 1st AD who is in charge of the risk assessment.

The Risk assessment is important because it is a legal requirement to make sure that you have thought about all possible hazards and make sure you have made them less likely to happen.

4.2 Explain why copyright is important in the film industry

Intellectual property or known as IP, is any form of original creation that can be bought or sold from music to machinery. The four main types of IP rights are patents, trade marks, designs and Copyright. In which, Copyright is a legal right that grants the creator of an original work piece exclusive rights to determine whether, and under what conditions, this original work may be used by others.

Copyright law exist to protect the creators original piece so that no one can copy their work and is protected by the law, if someone were to use copyrighted material from someone’s film or work piece, it can be taken to court and sew them or it can be taken down from youtube, etc.

Copyright laws and IP have been affected on our film production as we have only used original music, storyline and photos.

Hi Sophia, this shows very good understanding of health and safety laws and practice and how we carried it out in our film. You could go into more detail on copyright but clearly understand how this pertains to film and how we have applied it. You have achieved this section. Well done.
