TEAMWORK

3.1 Teamwork

Teamwork is important when working in film so that you create a good coherent production. You need to work well together as a team to make sure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals. So that the final film can be efficiently made and hang well together.  Our group worked well together because we communicated well and worked as one collective to create the desired outcome.  Everyone worked off each others skills to benefit the whole, so all those skills came together to make a good film. For example with the camera and sound team they needed to communicate well and work closely so that everyone knew what they were doing and when to start. Luckily our group was all lush. Even if you don’t like someone you need to get past that and get on for the sake of the project. Even though there were directors you never felt like they were controlling or dominant and everyone felt free to contribute without fear of being judged or dismissed.

If there isn’t good teamwork you are not able to create something that looks like it has come from one idea, everything gets jumbled up. If you have a dominant people are not able to speak what their vision is – without people feeling they can speak up about it People are not motivated to do their job if they are not vibing with the rest of the team and its not a nice environment if people don’t get on.

3.2 Qualities needed to work well with others

The qualities needed to work well with others:

Reliability is really important – you cant work together if one person lets the team down.  what you do is for the benefit of the whole team and if you mess up it lets everyone down.

Its important to turn up on time and to do your element of the work – you need everyone to bring their skills and be able to do their job. There is resentment if someone gets equal credit when they haven’t contributed.

Being respectful and polite while still able to express difference of opinion.

Positivity is really important as it leads to a supportive environment. Everyone needs to feel comfortable and able to share ideas.

Its important that people dont mess about and act inappropriately and endanger the crew as a whole or damage the kit.

Its important to make sure your contributors feel safe and are able to work with you.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I worked really well with Jake – we had really good communication and managed to get our ideas and requirements accross to the rest of the crew successfully. We were able to communicate if there was a sound issue with a take and make sure that we could re-do it. I worked well with the whole crew, I always felt that I could put ideas accross without judgement and feel that i was always positive and polite. The second shoot day was a long day and cold and windy when we were outside and I think I stayed positive and upbeat and made sure that we had a good vibe.

One problem we had was when the camera was rolling and I didn’t run sound because I wasn’t concentrating. There was also a communication problem with our first shot when the boom mike was in shot and Bo didn’t notice because she couldn’t see with the brightness of the sun.

I could improve my ability to work with others by making sure I am concentrating throughout when we are on set to make sure I am completely reliable in my role. Also to always double check on framing. What I have learnt the most is to be really on top of the technical side of things in order to achieve the vision of a production by making sure that the crew is able to communicate really well.
