Potential progression routes into the film industry and wider sector

2.3 Potential progression routes into the film industry and wider sector

I have learnt about progressing into the film industry in many ways such as studying film at university , applying to BFI residential courses, volunteering at film festivals and through networking. In each example, there is the possibility of meeting other filmmakers and finding new opportunities.

In the future, I hope to study film at a degree level and later on work around using the camera , filming scenes or to specialise in film advertisement and trailers. I’m interested in a film course that equally combines creating a range of styles of film as well as film studies, looking at deeper meaning of narratives.

I’m interested in working with a range of local media companies such as films at 59 but also post production houses in order to gain a wide variety of experience in different roles.

For making my own films, I hope to plan and shoot my own series of short documentaries working with a few other individuals on 0 budget with basic kit. We will plan to distribute films using social media and YouTube

From networks such as the BFI, I hope to gain unique opportunities for working in film and meet other individuals who share similar ideas and hope to work on projects with other people. I also hope to meet individuals who have different specialities of skills such as script writing and sound so i am able to learn basic techniques from them.

My next steps in terms of film is being involved with A small group, planning a series of a few short documentaries based in different cities of the UK , focusing on unique and obscure groups of people who may otherwise be hidden amongst city life.
