4.2 Explain why copyright is important in the film industry

Ip stands for intellectual property. Copyright is a legal right that exists to protect a creators content and means it cannot be used without permission or payment.

Copyrighted work can include anything such as films, music and books.

If you were to use copyrighted material without permission your film or video could get demonitised and you may get a fine. To insure you we don’t infringe copyright laws in our film we will use mostly our own content and get permission for any copyrighted material we may use.

For our music we are considering using some work by The Egg whose work would be copyrighted, however we have been in contacted and given permission to use their music in our film and so will not be breaching any copyright laws.
