Working Relationships

3.1 Teamwork

Teamwork is important because everyone has a job and people are relying on each other to get the film made. Working in a team means that people are able to support each other and solve problems together so that the film making process is easier.

Some examples of teamwork would be…

  • Everyone arrives on time to the set, otherwise it will be hard to shoot and it will slow down the process.
  • Good communication, so that people know what is going on and any problems that come up can be solved.
  • Respect is a good aspect of teamwork because people have to accept others and their skills so that people can work together peacefully.
  • Having a positive attitude towards the tasks given to you so that everyone can work nicely together is another aspect of successful teamwork.

If there is not good teamwork than it is most likely that problems will arise and slow down the working process making it harder to make the film.

Some examples of bad teamwork would be…

  • When people do not turn up to the set on time this will make teamwork difficult because the people who do show up on time will have to do more work than they need to do.
  • When there is a lack of communication this makes teamwork difficult because it causes confusion and make it easy for mistakes to be made. This could ruin the footage and therefore make the filming process longer.
  • When people do not have respect for each other this makes teamwork difficult because this will create a difficult working environment. It will be harder for people to work at the best of their abilities.
  • If people have a negative outlook on the work then this will make teamwork difficult because people will not want to work hard enough. This could affect the end product.

3.2 Qualities needed to work well with others

There are many qualities that are needed in order to work well together as a team. Some of these qualities include: good timekeeping, being reliable, good teamwork, being able to share ideas and working safely. During the filming process I was able to prove these qualities.

I was able to show good timekeeping when I got to the set on time and had an organised schedule so that I had good time management.  I was reliable because I was wiling to help others who needed assistance. I was able to show good team working skills during the shoot by communicating well and doing my role property so that the filming process was efficient. I was able to share my ideas by posting things on the group Facebook page and group Messenger chat. Since I am part of the Art Department I shared ideas about what the sets would look like. I gave ideas about the set for “Sam’s Bedroom”. For example, I helped give ideas for 80’s styled furniture. I worked safely because I made sure to follow the rules so that I did not get myself into any danger or cause anyone else to be in any danger. For example, when I used the boom I made sure that I moved the cord out of the way so that nobody tripped. I also made sure that when I held the boom in a high position so that I did not hit anyone.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I worked with others in the crew by asking questions when I was unsure of something, giving people support when they needed it, having a positive attitude, being patient and respectful so that everyone was in a good mood and worked well together, showing up to the set on time so that nobody’s time was wasted and doing my role well so that everyone could focus on their own roles and get the process done effectively.

One technical problem that we worked together to fix was when the “Incubus” helmet’s lights malfunctioned during the shoot and we figured out a solution so we could continue filming.

To improve my ability to work with others I can provide more assistance when I see it is needed, be more open with sharing ideas and not being afraid of being judged and being able to collaborate with others outside of the main working environment.
