Working Practices

4.1 Health and safety practice

Health and safety

Health and safety on film productions because when working on a film set you need to make sure that both the people and equipment is safe. Before shooting at ant location, a risk assessment sheet needs to be completed which shows the risks that the locations have and any possible ways to limit them. Health and safety does not only apply to the people working on a set but also the equipment used and the general pubic. While making our film we were safe with all of the equipment and packed everything up to move to each location. We made sure that we had everything sorted at each location so we could be as safe as possible.

These are our risk assessment sheets. They are important because they show what the risks could be when working at the locations that we had chosen to film at. It also tells us how we could limit those risks and what we will do as a team to prevent anything bad from happening.

4.2 Explain why copyright is important in the film industry

Copyright

The copyright act protects my work and means that nobody else can use my work as their own legally. It means that nobody can take a photo of mine and edit it as their own or claim that it was their original idea. The copyright act also gives me ownership to my filming and my work. In the film industry this is important because many people get influenced by other peoples work but there is a fine line between adapting someone else’s idea in a film and copying the idea completely. IP is intellectual property which covers an idea that someone may have which means that they have property over their ideas. this is important because it prevents the stories of any films being the same and gives each film its own individuality.

When I was creating the soundtrack for the film I used sampling from a song. To make sure that I was not ripping off the song, I had to manipulate and chop up sections of the song so that it could become unrecognisable. I also made sure that it had not been done before and everything in my track was my own ideas.

Your work for this section is fairly brief but does clearly show that you understand film industry working practices and legislation.
For health and safety practises you have considered the importance of a risk assessment and included the one for your documentary.
You have provided just enough evidence and this section is complete.
