My Production Role

1.2 Take a role in the production of a short film

My production role is camera work. In pre production my role is to discuss visual decisions with the group and work out how we want our film to look and the specific shots we want to get. In post production I need to be either filming or working with those using the cameras to discuss what we’re shooting and how.

I think one of the key qualities necessary for this role are being proactive, to make sure you’re always getting the right shot despite things changing around you and also capturing unplanned shots that could work really well as cutaways. Good communication is also essential to ensure that you are listening to the director and letting the know sound team know when you’re filming.

I plan to carry out this role by finding a balance between following instructions and taking initiative to work without direction or find unplanned shots. I think this balance will allow us to make the most of the small shooting time we have to get everything shot that we need and use any spare time in between there may be to get cutaway shots.

We’ll need to come equipped with a risk assessment, schedule and shoot script as well as all of the practical equipment such as Camera A and B, tripod, mic, stabilizer and lenses.
