Working Relationships

3.1 Teamwork

Teamwork is important when working in film production so that there is no misunderstandings between crew. For example, people knowing which scene is being filmed or people knowing their jobs in their teams. Another reason why teamwork is important in film production is so that tasks are delegated evenly between the crew and teams. For example, the camera team shouldn’t have to do the sound and vice versa. It also means jobs aren’t neglected.

If the teamwork isn’t good on a film crew, at atmosphere on set can plummet therefore starting arguments and making the environment generally more stressful. This can also lead to the shoot going behind schedule.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I think we worked well as a camera team. We communicated with each other well as all of us knew what the others were doing. We also helped each other out if one of us was confused/didn’t know what they were doing, for example Andrea and Ravi showed me how to use the stills camera when I didn’t know how to use it.

There were a few things I needed to overcome onset, one of them being that because the camera team was so big, we had to rotate roles regularly so that everyone could have a go. Because of that, it meant we had to get to grips with using the camera, which none of us had used before, a lot quicker than we usually would. We also got to work alongside a professional DOP which was really helpful but we had to get our heads around different language that he used and we had to keep up with him too.

To improve my ability to work with others I would learn to communicate more and better with other crew members. I would also learn to use the equipment before shooting so that I could be more independent in my role.
