Working relationships

3.1 Teamwork

Teamwork is important because it allows the whole film process to run smoothly. It also allows for members to communicate if there is an issue. Eg camera and sound work together as camera lets the sound crew know if they are in shot so that it won’t be caught on camera and cause an issue for the editor. It also helps to be nice on set with other crew members as if you are not then it will cause tension on set eg if you are rude to people on set then the chances of further work is unlikely to show up.

If there isn’t any teamwork then it would lead to various issues eg if a camera operator doesn’t show up and there is no one else who is experienced on camera then it would be lead to different reshoots and tension within the crew. Another example is if there is no communication within the crew then it would cause issues on set eg if director isn’t telling the camera and sound crew what scene to shoot, it would lead to confusion and nothing would be done.

3.2 Qualities needed to work well with others

GOOD TIMEKEEPING:

Inaz was on time for shoot and for sessions. He often came in early and always ready to work, carrying out extra work in between sessions. He showed good time management skills, ensuring that he was prepared for shoot and able to meet up at the required times. He read and understood the schedule and ensured that he carried out his role on set professionally and efficiently. Inaz has not always kept to deadlines with his portfolio but has ensured that he has caught up work.

RELIABILTY:

Inaz has proved to be a very reliable member of the crew. He has been exceptionally committed and consistent, carrying out his role in camera very professionally, gaining really good skills. Inaz showed massive initiative in coming in and teaching himself to edit and use the software while he had mentors. Showing that he was keen to make use of the opportunities available. Used it to cut a showreel and to apply to university.

SHOWING GOOD TEAMWORK:

Inaz worked really well with Kendra in the camera team, showing great communication to ensure that they had good coverage and did not double up on footage. He also communicated well with the sound and producer/ directing teams in making sure that he was carrying out his role to the best ability at all times. Inaz was focused, positive and respectful of others throughout the film making process and his attitude helped in making a positive and professional documentary team. He has a really cheerful, positive and open attitude towards work. He will make decisions when needed but is also happy to take direction when necesary.

SHARING IDEAS:

Inaz is really respectful of the ideas of others. He was engaged with the film idea from the start and contributed excellent creative camera ideas. Inaz was very good at communicating shot and set up ideas when on camera and at listening and responding to the ideas of others.

SAFE WORKING:

Inaz observed safe working practice. He attended the health and safety briefing and read and understood the risk assessment. He was aware of hazards on location and ensured that he kept the camera equipment safe and ensured the safety of others.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I worked well with everyone. Eg I worked with Tara on setting up the interviews and some of the boxing shots as well as getting different shots in the gym. Another example was when working in the sound crew where I made sure that their equipment wasn’t in shot and they would tell me when they are recording sound so that I can start filming on the camera.

One of the problems I encountered was when I was filming the interviews where I realised we needed to change up the shots as having the same shot but different contributor could not engage the audience so I suggested that we film this shot inside the boxing ring which we did. Another problem was that some of the shots was very bright and I asked for help where one of the sound crew helped me adjust the camera settings for these particular shots.

How I can improve my ability to work with crew is get more knowledge on how to work on camera and try to suggest more ideas to the crew around different shots.
