Working Relationships

3.1 Teamwork

Basically it takes a lot of people to make a film. Teamwork is important because you need more than one person to be able to handle making a whole film. There are a lot of different roles involved in making a film. If you didn’t have teamwork it would take a long time but also you might not have all the skills needed to make a film by yourself. You need good communication and it keeps everyone safe if you’re working in a team.

Everyone has different ideas and so if you work as a team all these ideas can be included. If you’re not working as a team, one person could get carried away, working on their own vision of the film and not have useful input from others.

If you’re not working as a team someone could get hurt, because for example moving heavy equipment of you don’t communicate well then someone might take more of the strain when lifting. Another example could be if there wasn’t good collaboration and communication between the director and actors, the performances might not be as good and as a result you wouldn’t have a good film.

3.2 Qualities needed to work well with others

If you have good time management it won’t be as stressful to reach deadlines and everything will flow more easily. Time is money and it can be expensive not to have good timekeeping when working in film.

I was on time for sessions and for the shoot weekend and I when I was asked to do something I got on and did it.

You should be reliable because you want people to trust you and have faith in you. If you’re not reliable people aren’t going to want to work with you. It’s horrible to let people down, especially if they are relying on you to do a particular role.

I was asked to spend time outside of the course schedule to do an extra music session. I travelled to Bristol from outside the city to join in on contributing to the original music for the film.

I put forward many sci fi songs to use as influence for the film. When it came to creating the music, I had a lot of drum and bass guitar ideas that I put forward. I also said that I think the film should have a ‘black mirror element’ mixed with a ‘cheesy 80’s sci fi feel’.

3.3 Working collaboratively on your film production

I enjoyed working with the rest of the crew, I put forward my own ideas to help each crew member as much as I could. I would sometimes crack the odd joke to keep everyone entertained so we could all stay patient and professional.

When I had to use the Incubus, we kept having problems with the connection of the lights, so I had to make sure I was extremely that everyone used it extremely carefully.

Maybe sometimes I could focus on using my initiative more and relying less on other people.
