As part of pre production I worked on the shot list as I am part of the camera team. I also worked in the team giving input and helping us to go down the homeless route of the LGBTQ community rather then just focusing on the community as a whole.

I felt very well prepared for the shoot we had all of our shot list written up and all the shoot schedule organised, so we were all prepared and didn’t have to worry about what we were doing on the shoot. My role on the shoot was mainly camera but on the first day of shooting I did a lot of boom operating as one of the sound team wasn’t on shoot for most of the day.

On the first day of shooting we were mainly located at the 1625ip offices on Old market. here we spent most the the day shooting interviews with Tyler who the documentary is our based on, and Fran and …. how both work the offices and have worked very closely with Tyler. We then spent the rest of the day filming cut aways and GV’s in Castle Park. On the second day of shooting we devoted this day to filming cut aways and GV’s around J3 roundabout in the tunnels and in and around St Werberghs. To finish the second day we went to Tylers new flat where we got a tour and our final interview with him.

I worked closely with Bo who is also part of the camera team and also with Una who is the director. We all worked very well as a group and communicated well with eachother. We all took on our own individual responsiblities so the shoot ran smoothly. I learnt how much work and how many individuals are involved in making a documentary. I also found out how cruicial each role in film production in making the film as a whole. I feel the crew worked really well together on set with everyone fufilling there job role.

The pressures of working on shoot are working to a set time scheldule which needs to be kept to to make sure everything that needs to be done gets done. Also working with a contributer and making sure that they are kept happy but also trying to get all the footage we need and it can be hard to keep that balance sometimes. We had a few challenges on set such as the weather which meant that we couldn’t get as much footage at one location as we wanted but we made up for that with getting more shots in other locations.

I feel I worked well as part of my crew on set as I got involved with different parts of the production and took on my responibilities well. I had feedback on some of the camera shots and took it on and changed them so they had better composition and flowed better. It improved my camera knowledge and skills massively as I hadn’t done much filming before so i learnt a lot about composition and different types of shots.

Overall I feel like the shoot went really well, the interviews were all went really well with us getting a lot of useful information and shots. What I would work on is maybe getting more shots and different locations as our shooting outside was cut short due to the rain.
