Production Diary

Production diary content

My role in pre-production was Producer. I created a shooting schedule and script, detailing all the different shots we needed to get and the times in which we needed to get them. I arranged a recce, for the location to be available on the day of filming and for the contributors to be there on time. I also had to ensure the crew had location, arrived at the right time so we could start shooting as planned. I felt that we were incredibly prepared for the shoot because we produced very detailed shooting schedules and plans and during the recce we had already  gathered some idea of the rooms we wanted to film in and the different shots we wanted to get.
On the shoot, my role was ensuring we got all the shots we had plans, as well as any extra shots we decided would be good on the day. I also got consent forms signed for everyone in the gym so that we could use any shots we filmed. I made sure that the contributors were at ease and present for when we wanted to film them. I was in charge of making sure that the whole day ran smoothly and that after our shooting weekend, we had everything we possibly could have needed. On the first day of shooting, we filmed the entire boxfit session, with close ups of some of our contributors as well as filming our main contributor training. We got three coach interviews as well as all the clips of our main contributor, Iestyn. On the second day, we filmed more boxfit sessions, establishing shots and we did interviews with another coach and the CEO of the charity. I worked closely with everyone on set, notably the camera team as it was important to me that we got every shot we had on the shooting script, however I also worked closely with the contributors, making sure that they knew what sort of things we were going to film of them and that they were comfortable with us doing so. I think I was professional throughout the entire two-days of shooting as i got fulfilled my responsibilities and i stayed focus on the task ahead however at points i was doing one of my jobs whilst i was needed by the others in the team which may have made it difficult for them at times and i am planning to work on that next time i am in a production team.

I have learned the importance of working in a team, using effective communication is key when working in a big team as it would be very easy to miscommunicate and miss out a shot.We all had to make sure we were on the same page which is important.

Lauren this is a good record of the production process and shows great practical application of the criteria for sections 1,2,3 and 4. You worked really well in your role as producer/director. You had a professional attitude and took on the responsibility of communicating between the contributors and crew very well. I think you worked extremely well given the time pressures.
You have achieved all your portfolio work to a high standard and more than met expectations in terms of the amount of work produced. You have clearly shown you can develop own working practice for the film industry. Well done.
